Cablevision Systems is offering IP-based voice trunking service with up to 100 direct-dial phone numbers on small business telephone systems in the hope of getting more small businesses to rip out the telco T-1 lines for good.

The Optimum Voice Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Trunking service uses a company's existing small business IP PBX system, and the operator's SIP trunking service now has the capacity of up to 24 streams, which is equal to the legacy T-1s . This is a notable increase from the 12 streams that were previously available. The service's ability to provide up to 100 direct inward dial (DID) telephone numbers also represents an increase of 40 numbers from the previous version. Optimum Voice SIP Trunking is now compliant with Avaya IP Office 6.0 as well.
